Rita!

A mandatory evacuation of Brazoria County has been ordered due to the impending arrival of hurricane Rita.

My sister and her kids are likely to end up north of Houston at a relative's house. Eddie, though, is scheduled to work starting long about the time landfall is expected (Friday). His place of employment is about two miles from the water if I recall.

Currently this is a category 4 storm.

If there's a serious power outage or worse, Amanda and the kids would likely come up to our place in Hurst.

Good news! Eddie will not be working during the storm. Instead he will go in during the day Wednesday to help shut down the plant. Don't know when he will be allowed to leave, but at least he will not be out there during the storm. The kids and I will probably leave sometime Wednesday and Eddie (and dog) will follow later.

My sister tells me that the evacuation order isn't mandatory yet, though a mandatory order is expected Thursday morning. Schools have been closed since yesterday in Lake Jackson.

My mother has to leave earlier than Thursday, though, if she wants to get anywhere, due to her evac route being through Houston, which is going to be insane.
